Frequently asked questions

Q. How do I use Yahoo Japan Auctions?
If you are familiar with eBay and other Internet auctions you'll find Yahoo! Japan very similar. When you sign-up you will receive detailed instructions on how to use the system including screen shots to guide you through the bidding process.

Q. I'm worried about language problems, can you help with translation?
Our guide to using Yahoo! Japan auctions will give you all the information you need to know to use the system. Unfortunately we are not able to provide a translation service for individual auctions. J-bidders uses Google translation to translate Yahoo! pages into English. While this doesn't provide a perfect translation it is usually enough to give you good idea about the items on auction.

Q.  Can I ask the seller a question like I do on eBay?
Yes, you can but as this is quite time consuming for us, a charge of $1 per question will be deducted from your J-bidders account.

Q. Does yahoo! Japan auctions have a "buy it now!" option  ?
Different auctions have different rules, our users guide will explain more about this. In many cases it is possible to 'pay the asking price' and the auction ends there and then.

Q. When will I know if I've won an auction?
You will be able to see this on-line in real-time. At the end of the auction, look for your Yahoo! Japan ID next to the status "auction finished". It will also appear immediately on your "finished auctions" list.

Q. When will I receive the final bill?
When we have received your goods from the seller and calculated the shipping costs, we'll email you the bill. This usually takes a couple of days.

Q. When do I pay?
If your J-bidders account contains sufficient funds to cover the total it will be debited automatically. If not, please pay the balance within 72 hours of receiving the final bill. If for any reason you are not able to pay within 72 hours, contact us immediately. Failure to settle your account promptly without prior permission could result in your account being frozen and your goods being re-auctioned.

Q: How long will it take to get my items?
This will vary depending on the destination and shipping method. Please see the Shipping information page.

Q: Can I cancel my bid?
No. We operate a no cancellations policy, please be very careful when bidding.

Q: Are your shipments insured?
This depends on the shipping method, please see shipping information for details, some methods do offer limited cover.

Q: What if my goods don't arrive?
In our experience this is highly unusual. If however your goods haven't arrived within a reasonable period, please contact us and we'll look into it from our end. We recommend choosing a shipping method which includes insurance just in case.
